Rustic Twig & Genuine Cowhide Bench, Possibly John Mortensen, Jackson Hole. Overall: 26.5 in. H x 39.5 in. W x 17.5 in. D Seat Height: 18.5 in. Handsome rustic bench constructed from solid natural twig and branch-form wood, fitted with a generously padded genuine cowhide upholstered seat displaying an especially attractive mottled brown, black and white pattern. The frame retains the natural bark, knots and irregularities of the wood, with splayed upright ends and stretcher construction lending both visual character and stability. The bench is strongly evocative of Western lodge furniture associated with Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and was reportedly acquired in that area. The construction and design are consistent with work attributed to John Mortensen, though no maker's mark has been located and the attribution is not confirmed. An appealing piece of Western rustic furniture particularly well suited to an equestrian, ranch, lodge or mountain interior. Provenance: From the estate of Moira McCracken, an international equine sales executive based in Georgia and lifelong equestrian with a deep passion for horses and animals. At the time of her passing, she owned four horses and six dogs. McCracken assembled a home filled with beautiful art and furnishings reflecting her equestrian and animal interests. She was the widow of John McCracken, who established IBM in Edinburgh, Scotland. Condition: Very good overall condition. The solid twig frame is sturdy and well constructed with expected natural variations in the wood. Genuine cowhide upholstery remains attractive with natural color variation and light age-appropriate wear. Minor surface wear and small natural imperfections consistent with use.
