ressive antique steamer/travel trunk marked “F. Reichman, Newport, KY,” featuring a dark canvas-covered body reinforced with extensive wood slats, decorative metal banding, riveted hardware, corner protectors, dual front latches, and a central lock. The heavily constructed trunk has wonderful aged character and an especially decorative combination of warm wood, dark covering, and naturally patinated metal hardware. The F. Reichman / Newport, Kentucky marking is particularly interesting. Period records confirm the Reichman name was established in the Newport/Campbell County area by the late 19th century, including a Francis Reichman documented there in 1870, although we could not locate enough reliable information to definitively identify the trunk manufacturer or date this example. Measures approximately 40.5" long x 23" deep x 22" tall. Shows considerable age-appropriate surface wear, scuffs, scratches, oxidation/patina, finish loss, and wear to the covering and hardware, all contributing to its authentic antique appearance. Exact age, manufacturer history, lock functionality, and completeness have not been independently verified. A fantastic piece of Victorian-era style luggage, antique travel memorabilia, primitive storage, or decorative Americana with strong display appeal. See photos for construction, markings, hardware, condition, and details.
