A collection of eight vintage portrait photographs documenting several generations of a family, primarily comprising silver gelatin prints and one chromogenic colour print. The group includes two large-format oval portraits on brown card mounts, one of a refined man with a moustache in a three-piece suit and another of a woman in an ornate high-collared dress with lace detailing. Both of these mounts are printed with the mark Sharp, Hamilton. to the lower right. A smaller portrait of a woman with waves in her hair and a pearl necklace is tipped into a grey paper folder with a silver border, stamped The Gainsboro Studio 436 YONGE ST. TORONTO. Also included is a tri-fold folder containing two identical silver gelatin portraits of a smiling woman wearing a dark dress with a lace ruff collar, each with an illegible pencil signature to the lower right margin, possibly reading y b e r. The collection further contains a portrait of a young man and a mid-20th century colour photograph of an elderly couple standing in front of a brick residence. Middle folder height: approx. 20.3 cm Card mount height: approx. 17.8 cm Measured against tape measure visible in the images. Condition: The paper folders and card mounts show common symptoms of age, including significant toning, scattered foxing, and surface spotting, particularly evident on the larger brown mounts. The colour photograph shows minor colour shifting characteristic of its age. There is general edge wear and occasional minor creasing to the edges of the folders and card surrounds. The photographs themselves appear to be in stable condition with varying degrees of light surface wear.
