An assortment of religious texts and study aids, featuring a quarto-sized study edition of The Parallel Gospels and Reference Passages. This volume was compiled by I. N. Johns and J. F. Kempfer and published by The Alpha Publishing Co. in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, in 1900. The text arranges the four Gospels topically and chronologically in parallel columns, utilizing a system based on the works of Robinson, Andrews, and others. The volume is bound in publisher black pebble-grain cloth with gilt-stamped scrolling and title on the front board. Accompanying this volume are several pocket-sized editions of the New Testament. One is a burgundy cloth-bound edition published in London by the Scripture Gift Mission and Naval and Military Bible Society, printed at the Oxford University Press in a Nonpareil 48mo thin format. A second small volume, bound in black pebble-grain cloth, was published by The Musson Book Company Limited in Toronto and London, printed in a Ruby 48mo format. Also included is a heavily worn leather-bound volume featuring gilt edge-painting. Dimensions (Parallel Gospels): Height approx. 26 cm. Condition: The Parallel Gospels volume is in good condition with minor shelf wear to the edges and corners; the binding remains secure and the gilt is bright. The burgundy Scripture Gift Mission New Testament shows significant wear, including adhesive tape repairs to the title page and fraying to the cloth at the extremities. The Musson Book Company New Testament exhibits moderate edge wear and some loss to the spine ends. The leather-bound volume is in poor condition, with substantial material loss to the spine, detached or loose boards, and heavily abraded leather. Internal pages across the smaller volumes show various degrees of toning and handling wear.
