This vintage pocket lighter is a mid-20th-century promotional item manufactured in Japan. It features a side-trigger automatic lift-arm mechanism and is constructed from chrome-plated metal with enamelled and printed graphics. The lighter serves as an advertisement for the Custodis Canadian Chimney Company, Limited. The front face displays the company name in black lettering below a red semicircular gauge-style logo, which is flanked by the words Trade Mark. The listed operational cities include Halifax, Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver. The reverse face features a red illustration of a brick industrial chimney stack emitting smoke, with the words Design, Construction, Maintenance, and Demolition printed to the right. The top mechanism and the side of the base are both stamped with the Rolex maker's mark. The base plate is further incised with the text Super Automatic De Luxe and Made in Japan. Dimensions (measured against a ruler): W approx. 2 inches (50 mm). Condition: The item is in good vintage condition, exhibiting characteristic signs of age and use. There is visible surface wear to the chrome-plated finish, including light pitting, scratches, and areas of oxidation, notably around the mechanical components and the base. The printed and enamelled graphics remain mostly intact and clearly legible, though some minor losses are present. The internal wick is in place. The mechanism has not been tested for functionality.
