exquisite antique Japanese cloisonné enamel humidor or cigarette box, showcasing the masterful artistry of the Meiji Period (1868–1912). Dimension: 4 1/4"x 4"H. The lid features a nocturnal or twilight scene set against a brilliant deep midnight-blue enamel background. An old, gnarly cherry blossom tree (sakura) arches across the right side, its branches bursting with delicate white and pink blossoms. Five small, finely detailed songbirds are depicted mid-flight, fluttering toward the tree. Each bird is rendered with individual personality, using distinct color accents of green, violet, yellow, and red.Along the bottom edge, a running stream or shoreline is flanked by blooming irises, wild chrysanthemums, and low-growing ground cover. In the lower-left corner, the name "JACK" is scratched or lightly incised into the surface. This custom engraving indicates it was likely repurposed or gifted as a personalized presentation item—frequently done for Western soldiers, diplomats, or traders during the late 19th or early 20th century. This piece uses the classic Shippo (Japanese cloisonné) method.
