exceptional antique Victorian or Belle Époque silver punch ladle (or large soup ladle), boasting elaborate historical relief work likely dating from the late 19th century. Dimension: 13"L. The ladle features a wide, deep circular bowl designed to scoop large volumes of liquid. The interior is finished in a bright gold-wash or vermeil coating (gold gilded over silver). This treatment was highly practical in historical tableware; it prevented acidic punches, wines, or soups from corroding the underlying silver while adding a luxurious dual-tone look. the upper handle of the antique silver ladle shows a beautifully sculpted three-dimensional portrait bust that anchors the decorative design. The handle terminates in a highly detailed, relief-cast bust of a bearded man in three-quarter profile. He features short, curly hair, deeply set eyes, and a prominent, full beard. His clothing is styled like a classical tunic or Renaissance doublet.
