Antique treadle-operated sewing machine housed in a substantial oak cabinet with a hinged work surface, decorative carved apron, four small side drawers fitted with ring pulls, and a black cast-iron treadle base with openwork pedal and large drive wheel. The black-finished sewing machine retains remnants of ornate gilt floral and medallion decoration across the bed and upright, though the maker’s lettering on the arm is heavily worn and not fully legible. The cabinet is constructed in richly grained oak and closes to form a finished furniture-style top when the machine is lowered. Condition shows considerable age and use, including scratches, stains, finish wear and discoloration to the oak, oxidation and wear to the iron base, and substantial loss to the machine’s original black finish and gilt decoration. Mechanical operation has not been verified and Measures 31"H 34"W x 17.5"D
