Hand-carved and painted wooden female mallard duck sculpture by J.C. West, dated 1973, modeled standing on carved webbed feet atop a naturalistic wood base. The hen features inset glass eyes, a warm brown head, orange-and-black bill, richly patterned tan and brown plumage, and a vivid blue wing speculum bordered in white. Detailed carved and painted feather work covers the breast, flanks, wings, and tail, giving the piece a strong decorative wildlife and folk-art character. A handwritten label on the underside identifies the piece as “Female Mallard 1973 by J.C. West” with additional location notation that appears to reference Surf City, New Jersey. Condition shows light age-related wear with scattered scratches, rubbing, minor paint loss, and surface wear to the carved wood base. Measures 8.75"H x 9"W x 5.25"D.
