Elegant antique figural sculpture titled “Inspiration” by Mathurin Moreau (French, 1822–1912), depicting a classically draped female artist standing barefoot while holding an open palette or drawing board in one hand and a slender implement in the other. The figure is modeled with flowing drapery, finely rendered facial features, and a graceful allegorical pose characteristic of Moreau’s academic decorative sculpture. Signed “Math. Moreau” on the integral base and mounted on a stepped circular pedestal with an applied plaque reading “INSPIRATION.” The sculpture appears to be patinated spelter or zinc alloy rather than solid bronze. Moreau commonly signed works “Math Moreau,” a documented variant of Mathurin Moreau’s signature. Condition shows age-related oxidation, rubbing, scratches, scattered finish loss, discoloration, and wear to the base and plaque. Measures 24"H x 8.75"W.
