A finely worked late 19th century Qing Dynasty Chinese silk jacket executed in a luminous ivory silk ground and richly embellished with intricate “forbidden stitch” (seed stitch) embroidery, the decoration featuring an auspicious central panel of flowering peonies emerging from scholar’s objects and jardinières, symbolizing prosperity and refinement, framed by deep black embroidered borders filled with delicate floral sprigs and suspended jewel-like motifs, further accented with bold blue silk trim that crisply outlines the collar, front opening, and hem, the sleeves vertically banded with dark trim and scattered with small embroidered blossoms, and the back similarly adorned with evenly spaced floral motifs creating a balanced and elegant composition; the interior reveals a finely woven silk lining with subtle geometric patterning, while condition shows expected age-related wear including areas of fraying, seam separation, and visible tearing particularly along the interior lining and lower edges, along with minor soiling and loose threads, all consistent with age and use yet retaining strong visual impact and excellent display quality. Measures 25.5" Long.
