U.S. M3-style fighting or trench knife with a stacked-leather washer handle, double steel guard, steel pommel and double-edged spear-point blade. The knife is unmarked or any original markings are no longer visible. Included is a U.S. M8A1 fiberglass scabbard marked "USM8A1 / P.W.H." Pennsylvania Working Home for the Blind manufactured P.W.H.-marked scabbards for the U.S. military during the Vietnam War era, approximately 1965–1969. The scabbard retains its olive-drab web belt hanger, retaining strap, metal hooks and leg cord. Measures approximately 13 inches overall in the scabbard. The knife and scabbard exhibit substantial service wear, scratches, sharpening, finish loss, oxidation and discoloration. The blade appears to have been polished. The leather grip is dry and worn with separation between several washers. Verdigris is present around some of the sheath hardware. Exact age and manufacturer of the knife are unknown.
