TAOTIE PATTERN SQUARE SEAL.
Height:8.7cm (3.43in) , Width:5cm (1.97in) , Weight:390g (0.860lb) An imperial?style square seal of Qing Dynasty from Shoushan Tianhuang stone. The stone is dense and mellow with bright golden?yellow tone and deep antique patina. The knob is fully round?carved as a tianlu auspicious beast holding a movable ring in its mouth, with spread feathered wings and curling mane, resting upon scrolling wave base in solemn imposing posture with meticulous carving. Four sides of seal body are fully decorated with archaistic taotie and kui?dragon patterns on lei?wen ground, drawing inspiration from Shang?Zhou bronze ritual vessels. The vermilion seal face bears dignified seal?script characters in balanced grand composition, rendered with thick rounded strokes and deep crisp grooves. Plentiful aged cinnabar seal?paste remains. Combining round carving, bas?relief and ground?pattern engraving, this magnificent piece embodies the solemn spirit of imperial seal?making, a heavy?weight Tianhuang treasure.

ALL PROPERTY IS SOLD AS IS, WHERE IS, WITH NO RETURNS OR CANCELLATIONS.

Additional photographs and condition reports may be provided upon request as a courtesy only.
