Two small watercolor and ink illustrations on paper, each signed LaNelle Kaiser and dated 1941 at the lower right, framed under glass. The subjects are caricature-style figures of Black children drawn in the popular illustration manner of the period, the kind of work collectors catalog as Black Americana: one shows a boy in a straw hat and rolled trousers, the other a girl in a white dress holding a flower. Frames are painted wood with gold inner lips, one light blue and one red, each about 6 by 8 inches overall; the consignor gave them as 9 by 6 inches. Backs are closed with brown board, one with a sawtooth hanger and one with a kraft easel back. Condition is fair: the paper has toned overall, there is a brown stain at the upper corner of the red-framed work and light spotting on the girl's dress, a soft crease runs through the lower right of the blue-framed work, and both frames show paint chips and rubbing at the corners. The glass in both is intact and the frames are sound. Not examined out of the frames. Sold as-is. Photos are the most accurate description of this lot.
