Two old hand-tool pieces. (1) A wood-handled awl about 6 inches overall, with a turned hardwood handle, a metal ferrule and a tapered flat steel blade; the handle carries a dark used patina and the butt end is slightly mushroomed from striking. (2) A small turned wood piece about 1.75 inches tall and 1.5 inches across, teardrop shaped with a rounded body, a small metal ball set at the narrow end, dark grooved bands around the waist and traces of red paint; the underside is cut with a crossed X groove filled with dark and red color. The original consignor listing described this second piece as a wooden marking gauge, which the photos do not support, since it has no beam, fence or scribing pin; its original purpose is not clear from the images, and the form is closest to a turned spinning top or a tool knob. Condition is good on both, with honest surface wear, patina and light paint loss consistent with shop use. Sold as-is. Photos are the most accurate description of this lot.
