Vintage Hand Crank Nut Grinder Glass Jar

Hand crank nut grinder with a black painted tin hopper and cutting drum that screws onto a clear glass jar. Turning the crank, which ends in a turned wooden knob, spins a slotted steel drum that shaves nuts, cheese, or chocolate down into the jar below. Grinders of this pattern sold in enormous numbers from the 1930s into the 1950s and are a steady favorite with vintage kitchen collectors. Fragments of a paper label remain on the hopper, but only traces of red and gray survive and no maker name is legible in the photos. It stands about 6 inches tall and measures about 5 inches across including the crank. The black paint is scuffed and worn to bare metal along the edges and rim, with rust on the drum, the crank shaft, and the collar where the metal meets the glass. The jar unscrews for cleaning and shows no chips or cracks. Condition is good for its age, with the finish wear and rust noted above. Not tested for function. Sold as-is.
