Title: Water Lilies Technique: Watercolor on paper Measures: 16 x 13 inches (40.6 x 33 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Good condition. The sheet presents vivid coloration with layered washes and gestural passages throughout the water, reflections, and vegetation. Minor handling wear, gentle waviness, and light age-related toning may be present. The work appears stable and display-ready, retaining its visual freshness and strong color contrasts. Presented under glazing in a silver-tone frame. Provenance: From a private Florida estate. According to the consignor, the work descended within the family from a relative who lived in Paris during the postwar period. No supporting records accompanied the work upon consignment. This provenance reflects the ownership history supplied when the artwork was received for cataloging. Visual Description: This vertical composition depicts a pond covered with clusters of broad green lily pads and scattered red blossoms. Layered passages of blue, violet, turquoise, and green suggest reflections of surrounding vegetation across the water’s surface. The absence of a horizon allows the aquatic forms and shifting reflections to fill the entire composition, creating an immersive arrangement of color and movement. The subject, elevated viewpoint, and atmospheric treatment recall the celebrated water-lily series associated with Claude Monet and his garden at Giverny. Bears an inscription reading “Claude Monet” near the lower right. Additional Information: A label reading “Galerie Durand-Ruel, 16 Rue Laffitte, Paris” is affixed to the reverse. The label, inscription, and stylistic associations are reported solely for cataloging purposes and do not independently establish authenticity, authorship by Claude Monet, or a documented transaction with Galerie Durand-Ruel. Attribution has not been verified through documentary records, catalogue raisonné inclusion, or a recognized scholarly authority. This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
