OPEN LACE EDGE FOOTED BOWL - RETICULATED LOOP RIM WITH CUT LEAF AND VINE BAND An elegant footed console or fruit bowl in clear pressed glass, distinguished by a fully open lace or reticulated rim made up of a continuous chain of pierced loops, and further dressed with a delicate cut and etched leaf-and-vine band circling the body. The flared bowl rises from a plain applied pedestal foot, giving the piece good visual lift on a table. Light passes right through the openwork border, so the bowl throws a lacy shadow and reads as much more decorative than its simple form suggests. Excellent as a low centerpiece for fruit, rolls, nuts, or wrapped candy, and equally attractive filled with floating blooms or potpourri, or simply displayed empty on a sideboard, hutch, or bookshelf. Sold as one piece. Description Form: round footed bowl or low compote with flared sides, open lace pierced loop rim, and plain applied circular pedestal foot with polished underside. Diameter: approximately 7-1/4" to 7-1/2" across at the outer edge of the lace rim per the tape-measure photos. Height: approximately 2-1/2" to 2-3/4" tall per the tape-measure photos. Decoration: continuous band of cut and etched leaves joined by a fine incised vine line, encircling the outside of the bowl below the rim; frosted, matte cutting that contrasts nicely against the bright polished glass. Rim: fully open reticulated loop border, molded as part of the bowl rather than applied. Marks: no maker's mark, backstamp, acid stamp, or paper label is present, including no Imperial IG monogram. Bidders should verify dimensions from the photographs. Attribution note Open lace or laced edge rims of this type are most associated with the Imperial Glass Company of Bellaire, Ohio, which produced its Laced Edge line - known to collectors as Katy, Genie, and Sugar Cane depending on the body pattern, and often called Katy Blue - as well as the clear Crocheted Crystal line, both featuring true pierced openwork borders. Westmoreland Glass of Grapeville, Pennsylvania made a comparable open lace border in its Doric line, and Indiana Glass produced lace edge footed pieces as well. Note that this bowl should not be confused with Imperial's Candlewick, line No. 400, which is identified by a row of individual separated round beads rather than closed loops. Many older Imperial pieces carry no IG mark at all, so an unmarked base does not rule Imperial out. Condition Used vintage condition, sold as-is. Photo-observed condition is generally good, with bright clarity, crisp openwork, and clean cutting on the leaf band. Please note a small flake or nick is visible on one of the pierced loops along the lace rim in the close-up photograph - inspect that image carefully before bidding.
