SET OF FOUR FOSTORIA "HEATHER" ETCHED CRYSTAL PLATES ON THE CENTURY 2630 BLANK A set of four elegant-era American etched crystal plates in Fostoria's Heather etching, carried on the company's Century No. 2630 blank with its distinctive scrolled curlicue rim. The plate-etched design is a delicate all-over spray of heather - feathery fern-like foliage with small radiating clusters of tiny blossoms - wrapping the rim and repeating in the center well, rendered in the soft frosted white of acid plate etching against thin, bright, colorless crystal. The undulating scroll edge gives the rim a light, almost ribbon-like movement. Beautiful for salads, desserts, appetizers, cheese, or luncheon service, and equally attractive displayed on a plate rail. Sold as a lot of four. Description Form: four matching round plates on the Century blank, with a wide sloping rim and a molded scrolled or curlicue-crimped outer edge. Diameter: approximately 7-1/2" to 8" across per the tape-measure photos. Decoration: acid plate-etched floral spray of heather blossoms and feathery foliage on the rim and in the center well; thin, light-weight colorless crystal. Marks: no maker's mark, acid stamp, or paper label is present - Fostoria etched crystal was generally sold with only a foil or paper label, which is normally long gone. Bidders should verify dimensions from the photographs. Attribution note Fostoria's Heather etching, catalogued by Replacements as "Stem 6037/2630, Etch 343," was made in crystal only from 1949 to 1971, per the Heather by Fostoria pattern listing, which lists the salad plate at 7-1/2 in. Heather was carried on Fostoria's Century blank, and the two identifying features are the etch itself - "clusters of leaves and blossoms that radiate from a center" - and the blank, whose "edges all have little curlicues on the rims," as explained in this Fostoria Heather pattern guide. Both features are present on these plates. Century, Fostoria's No. 2630 line, was introduced in 1949 and produced until 1982; the same blank also carried Fostoria's Bouquet etching, so bidders should compare the etch detail in the close-up photographs. Because the plates are unmarked, the Heather identification is offered as the consignor's photo-based opinion and is not guaranteed. Condition Used vintage condition, sold as-is. Photo-observed condition is good, with the etching crisp and clearly readable on all four plates and no cloudiness or sickness to the glass. No chips, cracks, or breaks are noted. Please note that the scrolled curlicue points along the rims are thin and are the most vulnerable area on this blank - examine them closely in the close-up photographs. Expect light utensil marks, faint surface scratching in the center wells, and minor wear consistent with age and normal table use.
