VINTAGE FEDERAL GLASS PETAL PATTERN CLEAR PRESSED GLASS SERVING BOWL WITH POINTED FLOWER PETAL RIM AND STARBURST CENTER Bright, sparkling clear pressed glass serving bowl in Federal Glass Company's Petal pattern, the mid-century favorite that reads as a full-blown flower when set on a table. Fifteen pointed petal arches radiate from a rayed starburst center medallion, and each arch tip is finished with a beveled four-point cross, the detail that identifies the pattern. The pressing is crisp and the glass is clear and lively. Perfect as a fruit, salad, chips, or snack bowl, a candy or nut dish, a dresser or vanity catch-all, or a stand-alone centerpiece. Description Federal Glass Company Petal pattern, clear pressed glass, pattern number 2829 Round low serving or console bowl with a flared, upswept pointed petal rim Measures approximately 8-3/4" across point to point and approximately 2-1/4" to 2-1/2" tall per the tape-measure photographs; bidders should verify dimensions from the photographs Radiating pointed arch panels with elongated raised almond and spear elements, a beveled four-lobed cross at each petal tip, and a finely rayed sunburst medallion in the well Plain recessed base ring, no foot, no applied trim No maker's mark, backstamp, acid stamp, or paper label is present - Federal pressed patterns of this era were typically unmarked, so absence of a mark is normal for the pattern Attribution note Federal Glass Company of Columbus, Ohio, produced the Petal pattern as a serving line of bowls, plates, and hurricane-style candle pieces, generally dated from the 1950s or 1960s into the 1970s, in crystal along with amber, teal, green, pink, yellow, orange, and iridescent finishes. Replacements, Ltd. catalogs the line as Petal Clear by Federal Glass, circa 1960 and discontinued, including a flared bowl listed at 8-1/4". The National Depression Glass Association's write-up on Federal's post-Depression patterns describes Petal by exactly the traits seen here, arches radiating from the center with crosses at the tips and round shapes with points. Collectors also caution that Petal was later reproduced, and that original pieces show a raised rim ring on the inside just below where the petals flare, sharp crisp pressing, a mold seam, and some utensil wear - all consistent with what appears in these photographs. Condition Used vintage condition, sold as-is. The glass is clear and bright with good sparkle, no clouding or sickness, and the pressed detail remains sharp throughout. Expected light surface scratching and faint utensil wear are present in the well and on the base ring from table use, along with normal mold seam lines and minor manufacturing bubbles or straw marks in the glass, which are typical of pressed glass of this period
