Artist: Unidentified Title: Winter Village with Church Medium: Etching on paper Sight Size: Approx. 5" x 13.5" Framed Size: Approx. 10" x 18.5" Period: Likely early to mid-20th century Signature: No visible signature in the exposed image area Presentation: Matted and framed under glass A winding snow-covered road leads the viewer toward the village, where a pair of small figures provides a sense of scale and life. Bare deciduous trees, stone walls, a rustic gate and scattered cottages frame the composition, while delicate linear shading creates the subdued atmosphere of an overcast winter day. No artist's signature is visible within the exposed image or margins. It is possible that a signature or inscription is concealed beneath the matting, but the work has not been removed from the frame to verify this. The reverse retains an old Simpson's Fine Pictures and Frames, Toronto framing label, providing additional period Canadian context to the presentation.
