A large private round that copies the Walking Liberty half dollar obverse, with a perched eagle and the maker name GOLDEN STATE MINT on the reverse. Read the piece and not the color: the reverse states .999 FINE and 5 OUNCES COPPER. This is a five ounce COPPER round, not a one ounce round and not silver. It is undated and carries no denomination, and it carries no COPY marking either. The round is brilliant and fully lustrous red orange with sharp detail and no wear. A small dark speck sits in the left reverse field, the capsule is scuffed, and a glare band crosses Liberty's gown in one photograph. The edge was never photographed and there is no scale reference in frame. Adolph Weinman's 1916 Walking Liberty design has long been free for anyone to copy, so private mints put it on rounds in copper, brass and silver alike. The metal marking on the piece is the only thing that tells a buyer which one is in hand, and this one says copper. Estimated Value: $3 to $6. Sold as-is.
