Serial # NSN. .36 caliber percussion fired rifle with a 36” heavy octagon barrel. The bore is good with light rust. The lock plate is marked P.S.J. & Co,/Warranted. The barrel is not marked. Philip S. Justice was a Philadelphia based gun maker who was active in the 1860’s to the 1880’s. Double set triggers. The barrel measures approx. 0.900” at the muzzle and approx. .950 at the breech end. The overall length is 52-1/2”. The metal finish on the barrel is a brown patina showing edge wear, thinning and scratches. There is a nasty ding on the left side towards the breech end with pitting around the nipple. The upper tang appears to have a weld repair. The lock plate and hammer are a cleaned brown patina showing thinning with light pitting. The striped maple full length stock with checkering on the wrist is in very good condition showing dings and scratches with finish wear. There is a small repair on the right side of the upper tang with a crack at the side plate on the left side along with some cracks along the right side of the forearm. Brass butt plate, decorative side plate, trigger guard and nose cap along with a brass heart tacked to the left side of the butt. Fixed sights dovetailed into the barrel. The action seems to work fine. Includes a wood ramrod.
