An antique Edwardian-style engraved silver-toned metal lady’s dance purse, resembling designs by makers such as Clarence A. Vanderbilt and Webster. The rectangular case features beveled corners and is suspended from a link chain with a finger loop. The exterior is profusely decorated with hand-engraved foliate and floral scrollwork. A central oval cartouche on the front is engraved with a single script monogram S. The hinged case opens to a multi-compartment interior featuring a rectangular mirror set within the lid and two spring-loaded circular compartments designed to hold coins. A larger open compartment with a spring-loaded decorative metal clip is provided for calling cards. The interior surfaces are finished with a circular engine-turned perlé pattern. Weight: 105 g Dimensions: approx. 9.5 cm x 7 cm (measured against a ruler). Condition: The purse is in good antique condition. There is light surface wear, minor scratches, and areas of tarnishing consistent with age and use. The mirror exhibits foxing around the edges. The clasp and hinge are functional and secure.
