A sterling silver bon-bon or sweetmeat basket by the Webster Company of North Attleboro, Massachusetts. The circular bowl features a flared rim with reticulated geometric lattice work and four repousse scroll and shell motifs. The dish is fitted with a hinged, shaped swing handle decorated with engraved floral and scroll patterns. The centre of the bowl is engraved with an Old English style monogram letter E. The piece stands on a small circular foot. The underside is stamped with the Webster Company maker's mark of an eagle with outstretched wings above a horizontal bar, alongside the words STERLING and the model number 0202. Weight: 102 g (measured on digital scale) Diameter: approx. 14 cm (measured against a tape measure). Condition: The item is in used condition with heavy tarnish and oxidation throughout the surface. Numerous surface scratches are visible, particularly to the interior of the bowl and on the base. The swing handle and hinge mechanism remain functional.
