A vintage three-piece carving set by Joseph Rodgers & Sons Ltd of Sheffield. The set comprises a carving knife, a carving fork with a folding safety guard, and a sharpening steel. The blades and tines are constructed from carbon steel, while the handles are made of a cream-coloured synthetic material, likely ivorine or celluloid, designed to simulate bone or ivory. The set is housed in its original blue leatherette-covered fitted case with a cream-coloured silk or satin lining. The interior of the lid features gold-printed marks including the Royal Warrant 'G R' flanking a crown, above the text 'JOSEPH RODGERS & SONS LTD, SHEFFIELD, CUTLERS TO HIS MAJESTY', and the firm's registered star and Maltese cross trademarks. Dimensions: Width of case approx. 16 inches (40.6 cm) measured against a ruler. Condition: The set displays signs of age and significant use. The exterior of the case is heavily scuffed with wear to the corners and edges. The interior lining is stained with visible foxing and discolouration. The handles show uneven yellowing, with the sharpening steel handle notably lighter than those of the knife and fork. The steel components exhibit surface oxidation and a dark patina appropriate for their age and material.
