One mid-19th century jacquard woven coverlet, produced in a two-colour reversible weave using red and cream yarns. The elaborate folk-art design features a central field decorated with floral wreaths enclosing hearts and eight-pointed stars. Interspersed between these motifs are depictions of birds, possibly distelfinks or parrots, perched on flowering branches. The entire field is enclosed within a complex border of floral, foliate, and geometric patterns. One corner of the textile contains a vertically arranged woven date of 1851 alongside the initials H J. Condition: The coverlet shows signs of age and use consistent with its mid-19th century origin. There are several visible pulled threads and snags throughout the red wool yarn. Minor fraying and loose threading are present along the edges.
