A mid-20th-century naïve style landscape painting executed in oil on a coarse-weave textile support, appearing to be burlap or needlepoint canvas. The composition features a large, dark pine tree in the foreground, set against a pale-coloured gabled building in the background. The paint is applied thinly, allowing the prominent grid texture of the support to remain highly visible. The building is inscribed with the date 1940 above the central doorway. The work is monogrammed EMS in the lower right corner and is housed in a light oak-effect wooden frame. An identification label reading Ethyle Stark is affixed to the frame, which aligns with the handwritten signature E. M. Stark on the reverse backing board. The reverse also includes a vintage white retail sticker from Zeller's. Overall dimensions (measured against a tape measure): H approx. 18 3/4 inches x W approx. 14 3/4 inches. Condition: The painting displays surface yellowing and minor discolouration consistent with its age. The wooden frame shows minor edge wear and light scuffing. There is no apparent restoration or significant paint loss.
