This antique two-piece carving set was manufactured by the Sheffield firm R.F. Mosley and Co. and bears the trademark for their Borwick Works. The set consists of one carbon steel carving knife and one matching two-prong carbon steel fork. The fork is equipped with a hinged, spring-loaded safety guard. Both items are fitted with handles fashioned from natural stag horn, which has been deeply carved and textured with a dark finish and secured with polished metal bolsters. The knife blade is stamped with a decorative scroll banner containing the word BORWICK, with THE above and SHEFFIELD below. The manufacturer name R.F. MOSLEY and CO is partially visible adjacent to the central mark. Knife overall length: approx. 41.3 cm Fork overall length: approx. 29.2 cm (Measurements taken from a tape measure showing imperial units). Condition: The set is in used antique condition with significant signs of age. The steel blade and fork prongs show extensive surface oxidation, heavy pitting, and areas of dark patination. The knife blade exhibits a modified profile consistent with historical sharpening and use. The stag horn handles remain structurally sound with no apparent splits or repairs, showing a well-aged surface patina. The mechanical guard on the fork remains operational.
