Earthenware Nuzzling Penguin Cookie Jar

This mid-century lidded earthenware cookie jar is designed in the form of two stylized, nuzzling penguins. The two-piece vessel features a lid comprising the joined heads and shoulders of the figures, while the base forms their rounded bodies and webbed feet. It is finished in a high-gloss cream glaze with cold-painted accents in black and red applied to the eyes, wings, feet, and beaks. The underside of the base is marked with an incised cursive character resembling the letter L, a numeral 4, and a small circle containing a spiral or C shape. The manufacturer name is not legible.Height: 9 inchesBase Width: 4.5 inchesThe cookie jar is in fair vintage condition overall. Significant loss is visible to the black and red cold-painted accents, particularly on the eyes and beaks. The cream glaze exhibits fine crazing throughout, with dark-stained crazing prominent on the underside of the base. A small chip is present on the interior rim of the base. Scattered surface marks and shelf wear are present.
