Dating to the WWII era, this German mirror-sighting marching compass is marked "Busch Rathenow" inside near the lens. Constructed with a black Bakelite body and hinged metal mirror cover, it features a rotating 0-64 graduated dial, sighting notch, and an N7/S molded material mark on the underside. The form is consistent with the Marschkompass pattern associated with Emil Busch A.G. of Rathenow; specific military issue is not asserted without an identifiable acceptance or unit mark. Condition is good for age with scattered scratches, surface dust and grime, finish wear, and visible haze, spotting, and scratches to the mirror and compass crystal. Residue from a former label is present on the underside. Hinges appear intact. Compass movement and accuracy have not been tested. Measures approximately 3 in. x 2 1/4 in. when closed. A distinctive period German navigation instrument with strong display appeal for collectors of WWII-era field equipment, compasses, optical instruments, and Bakelite military accessories.
