Dating to the turn of the 20th century, this early German 6x military field glass (Feldstecher) was manufactured by Carl Zeiss in Jena, Germany. Upper prism cover plate stampings display the framed "CARL ZEISS JENA" logo on the left cover and "FELDSTECHER 6FACH" on the right cover. An internal reticle scale (ranging grid) is integrated into the optical system. The binoculars measure 4 inches high by 5.75 inches wide (10.2 cm H x 14.6 cm W) and weigh 460 grams (1 lb 0.2 oz). The accompanying leather hard case measures 4.5 inches high by 7 inches wide (11.4 cm H x 17.8 cm W). Constructed with metal frame elements, individual focus diopters, and original pebble-textured body coverings, the unit maintains smooth central hinge pivot action and smooth focusing on both diopters. Optical glass displays a small black internal marking on the right channel, though viewing performance remains clear with the reticle grid visible. It is noted that the eyecups are mismatched. All painted finishes and body coverings are original factory issue, displaying light brassing wear along metal edges. The leather case shows major surface wear, heavy weathering, and age patina, fitted with a weathered web shoulder strap and closure latch.
