This German Verbandkasten or "First Aid Box" features a dark painted steel exterior with a stenciled lid reading "Verbandkasten" alongside a Red Cross emblem, dual tension latches, and an interior paper packing chart dated 1943 with a Waffenamt acceptance mark, which appears to be a modern color photocopy. The steel case itself still appears consistent with an original wartime German Verbandkasten. Likewise, some of the marked contents—particularly the 1940-dated Wehrkreissanitaetspark II Stettin bandage packets—may be period. However, the photocopied label strongly suggests that the box has been assembled, supplemented, or restored for display, known as a Collector "Married" Assembly or incomplete display. The box is fitted with contents that are styled after what would have been included inside the box at the time of distribution, modern replacement gauze rolls, and contemporary glass medicine vials. The contents are not original to this case Condition of the metal box is consistent with age and field use, exhibiting exterior paint loss, surface scuffing, edge wear, and scattered rust and oxidation throughout the metal housing and latches. The interior paper label shows light age toning and minor tear wear, while the display contents remain clean with minimal handling wear. Overall dimensions are 13 3/4" inches long by 7 1/4 inches wide by 34 1/4 inches high. Combining an original wartime metal case with decorative contents, this example presents well for historical display or theater reenactment setups.
