Centered within a 6 x 6 x 2.5 inch deep gilt wooden frame, this piece features a star-shaped badge measuring approximately 2.75 inches in diameter, backed by red fabric. The badge is constructed of metal with gold-toned rays and layered star elements, surrounding a central enameled ring inscribed "LITTERIS ET ARTIBUS 1882 BUDAPEST" in Latin. The rear of the star bears the marking "W. VOLK. STUTTG." indicating manufacture by W. Volk of Stuttgart. The frame displays classical floral motifs in relief. The item appears structurally sound, with visible wear to the rear wood surface and some fraying to the textile backing. Litteris et Artibus awards were historically presented for contributions to literature and the arts in Hungary. This presentation is encapsulated in a display frame for protection and presentation.
