Wifredo Lam (Cuban, 1902–1982), titled Figura Mitica (Mythical Bird), dated 1958. Charcoal and watercolor on paper An expressive mythological bird rendered in charcoal and watercolor, exhibiting the distinctive hybrid imagery and calligraphic line associated with the mature work of Wifredo Lam. Signed lower right W. Lam and dated 1958. Accompanied by documentation including certificates from Galeria Habana and Ohana Gallery, London, referencing the work's provenance from the collection of renowned Cuban author Alejo Carpentier, noting the drawing as a personal gift from Lam to Carpentier, with subsequent ownership by the Gerald M. Norman Collection. The certificates describe the work as Figura Mitica, Ave (Mythical Figure, Bird), watercolor and charcoal on paper, approximately 11.5" x 8.75". The artwork displays strong stylistic characteristics associated with Lam's late-1950s works on paper, featuring his iconic synthesis of human, animal, and spiritual forms. The sheet exhibits expected age toning and minor handling wear consistent with its age. Sight Size 11.5" x 8.75" Condition Minor age toning and light foxing.
