Rufino Tamayo (Mexican, 1899-1991). Untitled 1964. Signed and dated lower right Tamayo '64. Pencil on paper depicting an elegant surrealist composition comprised of flowing organic forms culminating in a geometric mechanical element. Executed with rich tonal shading and expressive graphite modeling, the drawing reflects Tamayo's distinctive fusion of abstraction, symbolism, and biomorphic imagery that characterized many of his intimate works on paper during the early 1960s. The reverse retains an identification label reading "Rufino Tamayo VI-1, Mexico (1899-1991), Untitled. Pencil on paper, signed, 1964. Tamayo remains one of the foremost figures of twentieth-century Mexican Modernism, celebrated for blending indigenous visual traditions with European modernist influences while maintaining a uniquely personal visual language.
