Jean Dubuffet (French, 1901–1985), titled L'Interieur, 1978. Black ink on paper. Original black ink drawing executed in Dubuffet's iconic L'Hourloupe style, depicting an abstract anthropomorphic visage composed of interlocking biomorphic forms and bold black contours. Inscribed upper right: "A Ignacio Carlos Tolra, amitie" (To Ignacio Carlos Tolra, in friendship). Signed J. Dubuffet. It looks like someone traced over the very light inscription to enhance the words. The reverse retains an original Pace Gallery, New York inventory label identifying the work as: L'Interieur 1978 Black ink on paper Inventory No. 8437 Dubuffet's L'Hourloupe series developed from the early 1960s through the late 1970s, represents one of the artist's most celebrated and influential bodies of work, characterized by fluid cellular forms and a highly personal visual language. Medium Black ink on paper Dimensions Approximately 9.5" x 11.5" Condition Light age toning and scattered foxing; minor edge wear; original Pace Gallery label affixed verso.
