1935 Vom Werden Deutscher Filmkunst Book Part 1

Manufactured by Cigaretten-Bilderdienst Altona-Bahrenfeld in 1935, this original collectible cigarette card album is titled Vom Werden deutscher Filmkunst: 1. Teil: Der stumme Film (On the Development of German Cinema: Part 1: Silent Film). Written by film historian Dr. Oskar Kalbus, this 136-page volume represents the 101st to 120th thousand printing variant (101. bis 120. Tausend) and is bound in blue paper wrappers featuring embossed gilt Fraktur lettering, and a classical theatrical mask design. The interior contains text printed in German Fraktur script along with tipped-in monochrome real photo card plates and full-page color plates illustrating legendary early silent films, actors, and directors, including Fritz Lang's Metropolis (featuring Alfred Abel, Rudolf Klein-Rogge, and the Maschinenmensch robot), Die Nibelungen, Henny Porten, Pola Negri, and Conrad Veidt. The volume measures approximately 12.5 x 9.5 inches and is complete, containing all photos. Condition is consistent with age and light handling. There is some fading on the cover. The outer blue wrappers present cleanly with bright gilt embellishments, light shelf rubbing along the spine edges, and minor corner bumping. Interior pages remain firmly bound with intact photo plates and show minor edge toning, light foxing spots, and a small vintage penciled mark on the half-title page.
