Manufactured by Cigaretten-Bilderdienst Altona-Bahrenfeld in 1935, this original collectible cigarette card album is titled Vom Werden deutscher Filmkunst: 1. Teil: Der stumme Film (On the Development of German Cinema: Part 1: Silent Film). Written by film historian Dr. Oskar Kalbus, the 136-page volume is bound in blue paper wrappers featuring embossed gilt Fraktur lettering, and a central framed tipped-on color portrait plate. The interior contains text printed in German Fraktur script along with tipped-in monochrome real photo card plates depicting iconic early German silent films, actors, and directors, including Asta Nielsen, Pola Negri, Brigitte Helm in Metropolis, and Werner Krauss. Condition is consistent with age and typical light handling. The outer blue paper covers exhibit clean presentation with strong gilt embossing, light rubbing along the edges, and minor bumping at the corners. Interior pages remain clean and firmly bound with crisp, intact photo plates and mild age-appropriate toning near the margins. Measuring 12.25 x 9.25 inches, this volume is complete, containing all photos and comes with a slipcase.
