Featuring an allegorical figure of Germania holding a shield and sword alongside firefighters tending to a comrade's grave, this original 1917 World War I memorial certificate honors Joseph Kastner of the Freiwillige Feuerwehr Trudering. Kastner served as a volunteer firefighter in his hometown before being killed on the front lines, prompting his comrades at the fire department to present this memorial to his family in his honor. Issued by the Bayerischer Landes-Feuerwehr-Verband and topped by an Iron Cross emblem, the document is dated Munich, April 1, 1917, and displays printed organizational signatures. Housed under glass in a black wooden frame with embossed foil detailing, the piece displays paper toning, light foxing, a small tear in the upper right corner, and minor frame scuffs. The framed piece measures 24.25 inches high by 19.75 inches wide.
