This complete civilian defense set features the VM 37 gas mask, matching RLAD marked canister with RL1-40/9 imprint, and the original illustrated manual. The canister is constructed from green-painted metal with visible loss of paint and surface oxidation, particularly on the edges and lid, which is clearly embossed with its period markings and RLAD logo. The VM 37 mask is made of green rubber with metal eyepiece frames showing rust and is stamped with a Waffenamt WaA320 inspection mark, and measures 7 inches high. The filter canister displays stamping with numbers and the R.L.1-40/9 code. The printed instruction manual is included, exhibiting typical period folds and creases. Issued by the Reich Air Protection League during the Third Reichera, this set was standard equipment for civilian air-raid defense.
