Norddeutscher Lloyd SS Bremen Silver-Plated Dish

An Art Deco silver-plated souvenir dish commemorating the Norddeutscher Lloyd ocean liner SS Bremen, manufactured by the silver foundry Koch & Bergfeld of Bremen, Germany. Measuring 5.25 inches in diameter, the dish features a shallow well with a central stylized relief etching depicting the SS Bremen underway at sea, surrounded by a broad fluted rim with a dramatic radiating sunburst motif. The reverse is stamped with the maker's mark oval for "KOCH & BERGFELD BREMEN", the Norddeutscher Lloyd crest emblem (anchor and key behind a shield), the inscription "Norddeutscher Lloyd Bremen", an "O.C.C." monogram mark, and the silver plating hallmark "4 GR" (indicating 4 grams of silver plating used). Produced around the vessel's 1928 launch and 1929 maiden voyage—when it famously captured the Blue Riband for the fastest transatlantic crossing—this piece represents early 20th-century German maritime memorabilia. Condition reflects age and service use, exhibiting light surface scratching, tarnish, rubbing to the central liner motif, minor edge wear, and polishing marks throughout.
