Manufactured by Carl Eickhorn in Solingen, Germany, this traditional Hirschfänger (hunting cutlass/dagger) features a single-edged steel blade deeply etched on both sides with elaborate game and forest hunting scenes, including capercaillie, wild boar, and hunting dogs. The ricasso bears the etched Eickhorn squirrel trademark with "ORIGINAL" and "SOLINGEN". The hilt assembly is constructed with a gold-toned D-guard adorned with oak leaf motifs, a hooved rear quillon, a clamshell guard decoratedwith a game bird scene, and synthetic cream-colored grip scales embellished with three gilt acorn devices. Accompanying the dagger is its black leather scabbard fitted with ornate gilt brass throat and tip mountings depicting a roaring stag. The dagger and scabbard present in fine condition overall, exhibiting minimal wear consistent with careful handling and display. The etched blade retains a bright, polished finish with crisp relief detailing, while the gilded hilt and scabbard fittings show minor light surface patina and wear around the guard joint. The synthetic grip scales remain solid and secure, and the leather scabbard remains firm with tight stitching.
