ca. mid-late 19th century; Mid-Atlantic state, Appalachian region traditional orschbock shaped basket with massive hickory splint woven as a utility basket for field gathering. The basket has a 1 1/2" wide bent hoop handle with 1" wide hoop rim, froe split and shaved rib construction with graduated weaving splints, cross-weave covered main hoop and fine double-rim with standard lashing. The hoop’s union is nailed with X-and stacked binding.; 19" x 16" x 15"; Condition: very good, needs some dusting. 1920s era dealer’s label is unfortunately only partially legible.
