ca. dated 1829; "The James P. Allaire Co., N. York" casting company operated from 1816-1869 focused attention on castings for nautical use including: steamship bells, boilers and engine components. This massive cast bronze "ship's" (??) bell has heavy cast iron headstock-yoke assembly, heavy bolt and nut mounted to rectangular crown of bell. The bronze alloy cast bell has embossed cast maker's band around top of bell and decorative lower-band; 18" dia. X 29" x 19 1/4" H; Condition: chip with crack from base extends up 12" to lower edge of maker's band.
