ca. Dated 1843; Dyed cottons and wool stitch on non-bleached homespun linen towel embroidered by "Margaret Harker, age 8, 1843". The line and spot form sampler done in multi-tones with upper three quarters filled with eight-lines of various letters and numbers with a four-line poetical religious work. It includes 13 line-samples, and 17 "spot" samples. The pictorial "spot" samples include: urns of flowers; flowering trees; red squirrel and red crab. The sampler has a simple embroidered line border, framed under green matting in a maple wood frame; 18" x 23 5/8"; Condition: Unknown origin. Soiling spot in lower center, minor soiling spots and minor stitch loss noted. Maker's record is unattributed. ***Note - not removed from frame during cataloging, unknown if mounted to backing. No tears noted.
