ca. early-mid 19th century; Attributed to southcentral PA, this uniquely painted softwood salt box has a bluish-green sponge-splotch decoration on a mustard yellow ground. The simple softwood slant lid box is in early cut-nail construction with a simple peaked center back with hanging eye and slanted lid on brass butt hinges; 10" x 6 1/2" x 6 1/2"; Condition: Original surface with excellent wear/patina from use; some minor bug holes to base of box; some dry-in cracking from use
