ca. 19th century; Folk art carved and polychrome painted carnival mask of a man in green top hat with curled mustache, typical for Mexico or South American "Carnival" celebrations. The mask is hollow carved from single softwood lumber with "Snidely Whiplash"-type long pointed nose, carved eyes with painted eyebrows, rounded ears, closed mouth with painted handle-bar mustache and viewing slits cut below eyes.; 7 1/2" x 5 1/2' x 12 1/4"H.; Condition: Old patina, appears to have been worn (possibly by a child). The mask appears to have been damaged & glue repaired. Some blistering of paint.
