ca. 18th-early 19th Century; Flax working hatchel with a red milk wash finish. Rare type, hooded flax working hatchel with wrought iron hanging ring. The hatchel board is uniquely constructed with square iron wrapped hardwood "spike-board" that wrought iron clip-nail fastened to fine walnut bench board which is extended past and cut-out to match "spike board". The one end of the bench board has a wrought iron bird's head mount and clip kept ring for hanging and chamfer worked edge with darkened patina red milk wash finish. The hatchel has a similar red wash painted softwwood hood that is hook and mounted to "bench board"; 9" x 19 1/4" x 7 1/8"; Condition: Excellent primitive form. Good-very good condition.
