Handcrafted African djembe-style drum featuring a carved wooden goblet-form body with decorative figural and geometric motifs throughout the base. The drum is fitted with a natural hide head secured by a traditional-style black rope-tension system, with braided detailing around the upper and lower rings. This combination of a carved wooden shell, hide head, and vertical rope tensioning is characteristic of West African djembe construction. The wooden base is extensively hand-carved with abstract figures, flowing geometric designs, and repeating eye-shaped motifs. The natural hide drumhead retains visible variations in color and texture. Purchased at the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show approximately 10 years ago. Exact country of origin, wood species, hide type, and maker are unknown. Measures approximately 20.5" tall. Displays age-related wear, surface marks, and natural variations to the wood and hide. Ropework appears intact. Untested for sound quality or professional musical use. See photos for details.
